What's in our journals ~
Parents often ask me how do you keep children engaged in writing in their journals. My daughter is the same and I try to make the practice as enjoyable as possible. For me journal writing helps on every level of their development, fine motor skills, holding a pen and writing helps them to develop their writing skills and makes them more confident too. It teaches them that their thoughts are powerful and because they are positive words its a great affirmation for them. They can be as creative as they want by using all methods of communication, from poems, quotes, pictures, drawings, photographs : these all convey so much meaning of their lives.Writing is therapeutic . Journal writing is a great way for our girls to reflect on their day. It helps them to learn discipline and have that 5 minute space to unwind and feel safe in in what they write. Jounaling has so many benefits to a girl's emotional well being, so often I have heard parents say how writing positive feelings helps their girls to express themselves freely. I am an advocate that journal writing should stir up positive thoughts only as it helps to fill our girls with pages of self esteem , self love and a whole bunch of sparkle.
For older girls I suggest journaling may progress through a Blog!. They will love the freedom to express themselves by using technology. My daughter has just started to blog and it amazes me to see her use positive uplifting writing as she wants to empower other young girls!
